The NovaBond SignFix range is a new generation of high performance foamed or extruded acrylic bonding tapes formulated and developed from the successfully innovative NovaBond solvent-free technology specifically to satisfy the demanding criteria of the sign industry although, by their nature, they are versatile enough to perform under most application criteria.

In the past, companies have developed vast ranges of tapes for bonding a huge variety of substrates for any given application. This placed the responsibility of choice with the customer and this was not only confusing but could lead to bond failures through opting for the wrong product. NovaBond have sought to remove the mystery of these high bond tapes by developing adhesive technologies to match the specific criteria of bonding metals, plastics or high clarity substrates like glass……so now, the choice is easy!

NovaBond SignFix 'Plastic'

Utilising a softer adhesive formulation for bonding lower surface energy plastics, SignFix ‘Plastic’ provides immediate grab and handling strength even on modern composite signmaking materials and polycarbonates without the need to abrade the surface. SignFix ‘Plastic’ is flexible enough to allow bonding of dissimilar plastics (even plastic to metal) to allow for different rates of expansion and contraction.

NovaBond SignFix 'Metal'

NovaBond SignFix ‘Metal’ is a firmer adhesive in order to increase the shear strength when bonding heavier metal signs. It is ideal for bonding stiffeners onto aluminium, stainless steel and painted metal signage and the firmness of the product supports the rigidity of the materials in the bond to provide a very secure ‘riveted’ or ‘welded’ feel to the sign. SignFix ‘Metal’ has the added benefit of withstanding extremely high temperatures and lends its use to bonding prior to powder coating and oven curing.

NovaBond SignFix ‘Crystal’

NovaBond SignFix Crystal is a water clear adhesive that is virtually invisible when bonding up high clarity materials like acrylic, polycarbonate or glass. It is a very soft and aggressive adhesive which allows for versatility whether bonding rigid or flexible materials.

NovaBond SignFix ‘Crystal HT’

NovaBond SignFix ‘Crystal HT’ is a firmer, high temperature version of the above to perform under elevated temperatures in situ or to withstand high oven temperatures in paint curing cycles.

NovaBond Surface Preparation

As these products remain flexible and actively flow into the surface irregularities to ensure 100% bonding area contact, it is imperative that the surface is cleaned with a non-residual agent such as NovaBond Surface Cleaner and the tapes applied with firm pressure, preferably with the use of a hand roller. Abrading the surfaces lightly will increase the surface area and hence, ultimate bond strength. For very low surface energy plastics, galvanised and powder coated surfaces or for very demanding, high stress applications such as road traffic signage, we recommend priming the surface prior to applying the tape with our NovaBond Surface Primer.

Product versus Substrate Matrix

NB If bonding bare metals prior to powder coating and oven stoving, abrade surfaces, clean and use any of the NovaBond SignFix Metal range or, for a flush bond line, use NovaBond SignFix Crystal HT 25. For high stress, demanding applications such as road traffic signs, abrade surface, clean and use NovaBond SignFix Metal 110 in conjunction with NovaBond Surface Primer. For difficult, low surface energy plastics, galvanised or powder coated surfaces prime with NovaBond Surface Primer, preferably abrading, where aesthetics allow, prior to applying the primer.

Select product thickness depending on substrate surface irregularities and gap-filling required. Optimum thickness is the minimum that will allow 100% surface contact which defines the ultimate bond strength.
